Powers or not, it did make the most sense for Oaur to lead them considering he did have a torch of sorts and Rukes' crystal wasn't nearly as effective in lighting their way as the archon's staff.

The cave walls were dripping with moisture and smelled of fish and mold. Jalin looked at the walls themselves. This was nothing like a cave you'd find in a mountain hold or a mine that had been delved into by dwarven pickaxes. The sea rock at their feet was forced up and around them, sheer stone had pushed this path up from Jalin's own observation. While there were many seashells at the entrance, there were bones of creatures here that were still decaying. In a wet environment open to ocean, crabs would have carried off most of the waste by now. No, this was no ancient cave just hidden and waiting to be found but a recent arrival to the lands above the ocean. This pathway to wherever it was they were going was no doubt related to the change in the currents around the island as Rafas had mentioned.

"A door," Oaur said, walking faster down what seemed to be a narrowing passage.

Jalin and Rukes both paused just outside the glow of Oaur's staff as the archon studied the symbols on the door.

"Not written by elf or dwarf," he said, moving his fingers about the script. "This is Dwemhar, old, but Dwemhar none the less. This actually says 'Watcher'," he said, pointing at a section of runes.

Jalin looked it over, while he couldn't read many scripts, he could recognize a few words.

"Sacred," he said, moving his fingertips across the rocks. "Sacred books?" he asked Oaur.

"Close, the twisted line next to the one that looks like a pillar of stone indicates stone tablets. If you follow the script," he sighed, moving past several more lines, "to here. This means, ‘Rolled’.”

"So, a scroll," Rukes said.

Oaur looked back, smiling, "Very nice, you get a sweet cake when we get back to Urlas."

"I'll just take more of that rum," Rukes laughed.

"Good, the door leads to a scroll. I expected as much," Jalin said, pushing on the door. "Any idea how to open it?"

"A crystal, it's always crystal with the Dwemhar," Oaur said.

He rubbed his hand down the left side of the door and then did the same to the right side.

"Hmm, odd." He tapped his chin and then nodded, reaching up above the door. He moved a stone over revealing a glimmer of jewel glowing just a bit from the light of his staff. He twisted the lock and the door began to slide open, revealing a palely lit passage."

"This was clearly not originally the door in. Otherwise, we'd never had gotten in that easy. This is from a hallway, the original structure attached to this passage is long gone," he looked around them and then nodded, "Likely at the bottom of the Glacial Seas."

They peered into the way now opened to them.
